MLK Day and Life
What's better than a week day full of NBA games? Thank you David Stern, for commandeering this great event each year, on MLK Day. +3.
I obviously watched a lot of basketball yesterday. One of my favorite teams to watch, the Ceatles, set things off with an early game against the Knicks. It was the NY broadcast team, and I love Clyde Frazier. He was showcasing his usual vocab gems for +1. The Ceatles won in a blowout, of course, but not before a mini-altercation between Paul Peezy and Quentin Richardson. Come on guys, leave the beef alone on this day of peace! -1 to each.
One of the best games of the day was Portland (we love this young Portland squad) vs. Atlanta. It went to OT, and L.O.N. Revolutionary Travis Outlaw hit the game-winner with his patented T-Mac-esque pull-up J! Everything was lovely. +2.
Chauncey Billups had a game-tier near the end of the Pistons/Magic game. And even though Rashard Lewis followed with a game-winner of his own, Billups' shot was better, +3. It was from LONG range.
The sound clips from miced-up athletes are usually worthless and boring, but not so with LeBron. He had some funny and interesting moments last night for TNT. Our favorite was when he channeled Martin! Awesome. +1.
The TNT guys had to work a triple-header yesterday, and for most of their broadcast, they were actually fairly boring. But towards the end of the night, they got loopy, and things got hilarious. This painter that does ultra-fast portraits was on hand at one game to do Dr. King's portrait. During the clip, the Chuckster was like, "Who is that?", referring to the painting, which was obviously Dr. King, given the context. Ernie and The Jet thought he was joking at first, but once they realized he was serious, they got on him HARD, and everybody was laughing. Then Charles took it to the next level by saying it looked more like Oliver Miller... then a Miller photo was shown... hilarity ensued. Classic. +5 all around.
Random:
I also caught the 2nd episode of the the Wire... +1 for Avon Barksdale (Wood Harris) running ish from jail!
Check out this article by Scoop Jackson, +3. I hadn't thought of the recent Tiger Woods flap this way, and he makes a good point.
Tiger Paws, +1, for being the bright gray, in a sea of gray!
Mystic. Despite only putting out one official album, she is one of my favorite artists of all-time. Everything she makes is beautiful... she just puts her soul into her music and you can FEEL it. That's always what makes the difference, to me, between good music and great music. Her "Breathe (Remix)" popped up today on shuffle, spurring this. +5.
